Blanchard Grinding

CB Manufacturing has been one of the largest Blanchard Industrial Grinding facility in Dayton and Southern Ohio since 1965. Depending on the material to be ground, our experienced operators are able to hold dimensions of flat and parallel to .001 or better and thickness to +/- .0005.

CB’s well-maintained equipment includes:

  • Three 42″ Blanchard vertical spindle industrial grinders
  • A Blanchard 84″, and the centerpiece of our industrial grinding department
  • A 108″ Mattison capable of handling parts as large as 128″
  • Up to a height of 48″
  • CB Manufacturing’s Mattison 108 is the largest vertical spindle rotary grinder east of the Mississippi and one of only three in all the United States.

Our operators are truly craftsmen, with years of experience and knowledge that allows them to meet and exceed our customers’ specifications. Along with our 24 hour operation five days a week, we also offer pick up and delivery service within a designated area, allowing us to easily meet tight delivery dates.

Blanchard Grinding Basics

Characteristic of a Vertical Spindle Rotary Surface Grinder is its trademark cross-hatched surface finish, caused by the turning motion of the grinding wheels moving counter to the rotation of the part on the table. Although the machine manufacturer’s name, “Blanchard”, has become synonymous with the process, setting the standard for the industry in general, there are a number of popular vertical spindle rotary grinders: Mattison, Heald, and DCM-Tech among them.

The burly, muscular grinders quickly remove stock from one side of a part using segmented coarsely abrasive stones mounted on a wheel. A flat magnetic chuck, or table, holds magnetic materials such as ferrous metals in place; specially designed fixtures are used to position non-ferrous and non-magnetic materials during the industrial grinding process.

The benefits of vertical spindle rotary industrial grinding is the ability to quickly and efficiently remove large amounts of stock from one side of a part that is usually too large to be double ground. The speed of Blanchard grinding assures quick turn-around with high-production rates and a moderate finish.
